Rick Springfield (born Richard Lewis Springthorpe on August 23, 1949) is an Australian musician, singer-songwriter, actor, and novelist who is best known for his work with the band Springfield. He was a member of the pop rock group Zoot from 1969 to 1971, after which he launched a solo career with his debut single “Speak to the Sky,” which peaked in the top ten of the Australian charts in mid-1972, shortly before relocating to the United States. He was born in Sydney, Australia, and raised in Los Angeles, California. “Jessie’s Girl” was a No. 1 success in both Australia and the United States in 1981, and he was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for his work on the song.

He then went on to have four more top ten singles in the United States, including “I’ve Done Everything for You,” “Don’t Talk to Strangers,” “Affair of the Heart,” and “Love Someone.” Working Class Dog (1981) and Success Hasn’t Spoiled Me Yet (1992) are two of his albums that reached the top ten in the United States (1982). His acting credits include the role of Dr. Noah Drake on the daytime soap General Hospital from 1981 to 1983, and again from 2005 to 2008 and 2012, returning in 2013 to celebrate the program’s 50th anniversary alongside his son, himself an actor, Liam Springthorpe, who played Dr. Noah Drake on the show. Late, Late at Night: A Memoir, which was released in 2010 by Springfield, is his autobiography.
